Give an award
On December 12, 2023, Australian Digital Artist Paul Brown has been awarded the prestigious ACM SIGGRAPH “Distinguished Artist Award for Lifetime Achievement in Digital Art. Distinguished Artist Award for Lifetime Achievement in Digital Art “. This honor is one of the highest in the field of computer graphics and interaction technology. Lauded for his pioneering work in computational art, generative systems, and cellular automata, Brown became the first Australian artist and the third (due to dual citizenship) British artist to receive this distinguished award.
The award is a testament to Brown’s pioneering efforts and significant contributions in the field of digital art. We acknowledge his innovative approach and enduring commitment to the field, which has not only advanced the practice of digital art, but created new avenues for digital artists and technologists around the world.
Singapore Associate Professor Yong Tsui (YT) Lee also received the Outstanding Service Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the computer graphics community in Asia, especially his role in founding and fostering the SIGGRAPH Asia conference.
The recognition of Paul Brown and YT Lee underscores ACM SIGGRAPH’s commitment to recognizing individuals who have had a profound impact, both artisically and academically, on the fields of digital art and computer graphics.
The Openning Ceremony

The chapters of SIGGRAPH Aisa participated in the work sharing sessions. AJ Christensen first delivered a welcome speech as the chairman of SIGGRAPH Global Chapter. Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chengdu and other branches also made work sharing. The chairman of SIGGRPAH Shanghai put forward the global idea of helping young people participate in the development of graphics technology — IADGE International Alliance. And was supported by AJ and other chairmen.
CAF Computer Animation Festival
Animation Theatre delves into the world of animation, visual effects, and scientific visualization over the past year. This screening presents excellent works from around the world selected by the Computer Animation Festival jury.
Electronic Theatre also presents the best animation, visual effects and scientific visualizations produced last year. The jury assembled this exhibition to represent must-see works in computer graphics.
Three prestigious prizes for 2023 will also be presented at the event: best student entry, Jury Special Award, and Best Entry.
Keynote Speech Keynote
One of the keynote speakers, Joe Letteri, a five-time Academy Award winner and senior visual effects supervisor at WētāFX, revealed a unique insight into the cutting-edge world of visual effects in his highly anticipated talk, with a focus on his recent achievement, Avatar: Water Path.
The second keynote speaker was Jun Murai, a distinguished professor at Keio University in Japan and the “father of the Internet in Japan”, who discussed the new frontier of Internet civilization and its impact on communication, collaboration and even remote surgery.

Rob Bredow is Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer at Industrial Light&Magic. Bredow is an Academy Award nominated head of VFX focused on sharing creative strategy, innovation and business development.
Paul Debevec, Chief Research Officer at Netflix Eyeline Studios, will provide an overview of virtual cinematography from its founding at UC Berkeley to its contributions to films such as The Matrix and Avatar, And its impact on recent virtual production techniques in films such as The Social Network, Gravity, and The Mandalore.
Christophe Hery: Director of Research for META Science, Hery’s work on acclaimed films such as Finding Dory, Coco, and Toy Story 4 has won him two technical achievement awards, and he was invited to speak at the Digital Humans panel.
Rob Coleman: Creative Director of Industrial Light&Magic, co-chair of this year’s Computer Animation Festival, and two-time Oscar nominee, will share his insights on the character animation panel.
Raqi Syed: A senior lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington, writer, director and visual effects designer Syed will present her journey from Disney to WētāFX, filming blockbuster films such as Avatar and The Hobbit Trilogy
Sabine Laimer and Robin Hollander: Special effects experts from WātāFX, New Zealand, will share their insights on sequence effects supervision and the delicate balance of AI and talent in the evolving world of visual effects, covering animations such as Cocaine Bear and Marvel.

Live! Real-Time Live!
A range of the best real-time and interactive technologies are used to bring the eye-opening scene to the audience, and the projects are very diverse: one project is the virtual band Big Sand — Sally Coleman in the virtual world, which was born out of the imagination of musician and former radio host Sally Coleman.
Sally’s performance was not done on a live stage, but was presented at a university near the convention center by performing to capture, and then through remote production, animating and interacting with the audience.
After various presentations, the audience and jury awards were announced to Sally Coleman as the winner of both trophies.
